Linfield not far back after Round 1 of NWC Championships

WOODBURN, Ore. – The Linfield men are within striking distance after one round of action at the Northwest Conference Golf Championships Saturday at the OGA Golf Course.
 
The Wildcats ended the opening round in fourth place with a team score of 296 (+8). They are just two strokes back of Whitworth (294) for third place and five strokes back of first-place Whitman (291).
 
Junior Trevor Price is pacing Linfield in a four-way tie for fifth place at even-par on the par-72 course. Fellow junior Riley Lynch and freshman Jacob Smissen are also in the mix in a seven-way logjam in 10th place. The duo carded a 74 (+2) on Saturday.
 
Senior Ahron Abraham will enter the second round in a three-way tie for 19th place with a score of 76 (+4). Chris Cayford rounded out the 'Cats in a seven-way tie for 23rd at 78 (+6)
 
All four scoring players for Whitman are in the top 10. George Fox's Brenden Borck and Willamette's Oliver Smith sit atop the individual leaderboard with identical scores of 69 (-3).
 
NEXT
The 'Cats will look to keep pace with the field and make some moves in Round 2. All teams will start teeing off at 8 a.m. Sunday.
